Gator Club Collects Supplies for Troops
Author: Emily Sperling
November 19, 2008

At a recent meeting, the Sarasota County Gator Club collected supplies for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The project was completed in collaboration with the Military Support Group of Alachua County, which will distribute the items to troops overseas. Collected items included personal care products, books and food.

The mission of the Sarasota County Gator Club® is to foster and enhance the relationship between the University of Florida, its alumni, students and friends in the area and to support the university's mission of teaching, research and service.

"Our club is committed to being good community stewards, " said club president Emily Sperling. "We chose to partner with the Military Support Group of Alachua County to ensure the items we collected would make it into the hands of University of Florida graduates and fans. It also allowed us to give something back to the Gainesville community that hosted us as students when we attended the university."
